Stefon Diggs, released by Patriots in March, says no NFL No. 2 receiver is better than him

Stefon Diggs stated that no wide receiver currently listed as a No. 2 on an NFL roster is better than him. The 32-year-old free agent made the comments in a video posted last week to his YouTube channel.

"My opinion, I can compete with anybody," Diggs said. "But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? " Diggs became a free agent after the New England Patriots released him in March 2026 to free up $26.5 million in salary cap space.

The team later traded for A.J. Brown and signed Romeo Doubs. In the 2025 season, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season with the Patriots. He added 14 receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown in four postseason games as New England reached the Super Bowl.

It was his seventh 1,000-yard receiving season. Diggs had suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2024 while with the Houston Texans. Legal matters involving Diggs were resolved earlier this year. He was found not guilty in May 2026 of assaulting his private chef.

The NFL closed its review last month after finding insufficient evidence of a personal conduct policy violation. Diggs had pleaded not guilty in February to a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. "I brought myself here," Diggs said in the video.

"Unfortunate at times, but I'm blessed. I'm going to be exactly where I'm supposed to be.
