Stellantis to Launch Ram Muscle Trucks with V-8 Engines
Stellantis will introduce a new lineup of high-performance Ram pickup trucks featuring V-8 engines. The vehicles will be sold in the United States beginning this fall despite elevated gasoline prices.
CnbcStellantis announced plans to launch a lineup of high-performance Ram pickup trucks equipped with V-8 engines. The company described the vehicles as muscle trucks and said they will include special parts and performance specifications. The top model will feature a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine producing 777 horsepower and a targeted top speed of 170 miles per hour.
The lineup will begin with a 5.7-liter V-8 version later this year, followed by additional models in the first half of 2027.
The trucks will be built at the company's plant in Saltillo, Mexico. Stellantis did not release pricing information, but company officials compared an entry-level model to a current version that can exceed $60,000. A higher-performance version could be positioned near the $100,000 range of an existing off-road model.
Officials said the new trucks share many components with current Ram pickups and that investment recovery should be straightforward.
Nationwide average gasoline prices stand at $4.56 per gallon. Company officials stated that full-size pickup trucks have expanded into luxury and off-road segments and that traditional muscle car offerings have declined as manufacturers focused on electric vehicles.
Officials also noted that high-performance models typically represent a small share of sales but generate margins approximately three times higher than average vehicles. The announcement occurred ahead of the company's first investor day under its current chief executive.
