San Francisco received nearly as much rain one morning as it would typically see for the month. Many locations recorded between a quarter inch and an inch of precipitation.
Murdock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office serving the Bay Area, said rain in May is uncommon. “Usually, April is when we start to see the rain get cut off,” Murdock said.

Said the rain has wetted the landscape and made it less flammable. Wachter added that the reduced wildfire threat is not expected to last long, with warm, dry weather forecast for next week. A slope in the Sierra Nevada remained open for skiing after the snowfall.
