Storms and Heat Advisories Posted for Parts of Central U.S. and Both Coasts
A level-3 enhanced risk covers parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri on June 13. More than 50 million people face a level-2 slight risk on the East Coast Sunday.
abcnews.go.comA level-3 enhanced risk for severe weather is in effect Saturday for parts of Nebraska, Oklahoma, eastern Kansas and much of western and central Missouri. The risk area includes Wichita, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Springfield, Missouri. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are the main threats listed by forecasters.
A flood watch remains in place until Sunday morning for parts of eastern Kansas, western Missouri, northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. The severe weather threat stretches from Texas to Illinois on June 13. On Sunday the focus shifts east.
A level-2 slight risk extends from northern North Carolina to upstate New York and covers more than 50 million people. ; Philadelphia; New York City; Pittsburgh; and Albany, New York. Damaging winds, large hail and lightning are the primary hazards.
Heat advisories are posted for millions from the Carolinas and Florida to Arkansas and Oklahoma. An extreme heat warning covers the Portland, Oregon, area, where forecasters expect a life-threatening heat wave Sunday through Tuesday with temperatures of 95 to 100 degrees.
A heat advisory is active in California’s central valley from Redding to Bakersfield, where highs of 100 to 105 degrees are possible.
Temperatures near 100 degrees are also forecast for San Jose and Santa Clara in the Bay Area. The Northeast is expected to see lower humidity this weekend, keeping heat levels less dangerous even as readings reach the 80s and 90s. Forecasters said the severe weather pattern will stall for a couple of days before increasing again by midweek.
