Strategy's BTC Yield Falls to 12.8% After 1,550 Bitcoin Purchase
Strategy's bitcoin holdings rose to 845,256 BTC while assumed diluted shares increased to 384.180 million. BTC Yield declined from 13.0% to 12.8% and BTC Gain YTD fell from 87,754 BTC to 86,328 BTC.
CoinDeskStrategy acquired 1,550 additional bitcoin between June 1 and June 8, increasing total holdings from 843,706 BTC to 845,256 BTC. Assumed diluted shares outstanding rose from 382.756 million to 384.180 million over the same period.
Yield, the company's measure of bitcoin per assumed diluted share, fell from 13.0% to 12.8%. BTC Gain YTD also declined from 87,754 BTC to 86,328 BTC. The company added roughly $100 million in U.S. dollar reserves, bringing the total USD reserve to $1 billion.
A bitcoin advocate argued the transaction was dilutive on a bitcoin-per-share basis because BTC Yield declined. The company's executive chairman stated that BTC Yield measures only bitcoin per share and does not capture total shareholder value when cash reserves are included.
The executive chairman said the addition of cash reserves made the transaction accretive when both bitcoin and cash holdings are considered.
