Study Describes Method to Track Macrophage Response to Tumor Cell Clearance

A laboratory method called Effero-seq recorded changes in macrophages after they cleared tumor cells in mouse models of melanoma. The method showed that efferocytosis of tumor cells can induce protumoral functions in the macrophages.

The study was published in SciImmunology.

Researchers applied the sequencing approach to track cellular activity following tumor cell uptake. The findings describe a measurable shift in macrophage behavior linked to the clearance process. Further laboratory work would be required to determine whether similar patterns occur outside the melanoma models examined.
