Study Identifies Tumor-to-Nerve Pathway Driving Cancer Cachexia in Mice

A study published in Science identified a previously unrecognized signaling pathway between lung tumors and the nervous system that drives cancer-associated cachexia in mice. The pathway links specific tumor genetics with dietary factors and nerve activity, according to the research.

The findings indicate that blocking this tumor-to-nerve signaling could serve as a treatment approach for cachexia, a condition marked by severe weight loss and muscle wasting in cancer patients. The study was conducted using mouse models of lung cancer.
