A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives near a passenger train traveling through Quetta in southwestern Pakistan. The blast overturned two train cars, which caught fire, and damaged several nearby buildings and more than a dozen parked vehicles.
At least 24 people were killed and more than 70 injured, according to officials. The train was carrying military personnel at the time of the attack.
The Baloch Liberation Army, an outlawed group that seeks independence for Balochistan, claimed responsibility for targeting the train carrying security personnel. The province has seen repeated attacks on security forces, government sites, and civilians.
“I strongly condemn the heinous bomb explosion near Chaman Phatak, Quetta, which has resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives and left many others injured.”
