Support for Immigration Falls to 73 Percent in June Gallup Poll

Seventy-three percent of U.S. adults said immigration is a good thing in June Gallup polling, down from 79 percent the previous year. The decline came after a record high in 2025 and coincided with the Trump administration’s efforts to restrict both illegal and legal migration.

The drop was concentrated among Republican voters, whose support for immigration fell 14 points from the prior year. Support for hiring additional border patrol agents also declined 10 points after congressional Republicans passed a party-line border funding bill.

Majorities of Americans continued to say legal immigration produces positive effects on filling workforce gaps, filling low-wage jobs, generating tax revenue for public programs, and expanding the tech workforce.
