Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship, Rejects Executive Order

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld birthright citizenship in a 6-3 decision. The ruling rejected an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on the first day of his second term that sought to end automatic citizenship for children born in the United States.

The decision settled a legal question that had remained pending since the order was issued. The court affirmed that children born in the United States remain U.S. citizens regardless of their parents' immigration status.

In fiscal year 2024, 231 Fortune 500 companies founded by immigrants or their children generated $8.6 trillion in combined revenue. The 122 companies founded specifically by American-born children of immigrants accounted for a significant share of that total.
