nbcnews.comGB News reported that a Deltapoll survey of 2,091 British adults found more than six in 10 Britons concerned about government surveillance via digital ID, including monitoring of where and when the digital card is used. The same survey found 74 per cent worried about the risk of cyber attacks if the plans proceed.
Ministers had planned to introduce mandatory digital IDs required as proof of the right to work but faced opposition and U-turned on that requirement.
They continue to push for digital ID to be required for digital right-to-work checks. Liberty, founded in 1934, is urging Andy Burnham to scrap plans for digital ID and facial recognition technology when he becomes Prime Minister. The Together Declaration, headed by Alan Miller, also opposes the plans.
Miller stated there was "unanimity" across the British political divide in defiance of digital ID. In September last year, Andy Burnham said he opposed plans for digital ID, responding "not now" when asked if he favoured rolling it out.
