Survey Shows Younger Americans Less Concerned About China Than Seniors

A new survey found Americans age 65 and older far more likely than those ages 18 to 29 to express concern about several China-related issues. Fox News reported that 93 percent of seniors said they were concerned about China's ability to spy on the United States, compared with 62 percent of younger adults. The same pattern held across other topics.

Eighty-six percent of those 65 and older expressed concern about China's potential use of force against Taiwan, versus 56 percent of those 18 to 29. Concern about technology theft stood at 91 percent for seniors and 61 percent for younger respondents. Purchases of U.S.

Land drew concern from 93 percent of seniors and 68 percent of younger adults. China's role in fentanyl flows concerned 92 percent of seniors and 68 percent of younger adults. Overall, more than 80 percent of all Americans voiced concern about fentanyl flows, spying and land purchases.

Sixty-six percent said Taiwan's security matters to the United States. The Ronald Reagan Institute Summer Survey was conducted among 1,555 U.S. adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Results were weighted to U.S. Census Bureau 2023 benchmarks. The poll included an oversample of 338 self-identified MAGA Republicans under age 30. Sixty-one percent of Americans said the United States should be more engaged in global affairs, while 27 percent preferred a less engaged approach.

Republican support for a leading U.S. role rose to 71 percent from 69 percent a year earlier, while Democratic support fell to 55 percent from 65 percent. Forty-three percent of Democrats now say U.S.
