A fourth assassination attempt targeted President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this past weekend, according to The Federalist. The incident follows previous attempts and other acts of political violence. Reactions included calls for calm and condemnations of rhetoric.

An individual allegedly burst into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner venue this past weekend to kill President Trump, marking the fourth assassination attempt on the president, The Federalist reported. The attempt occurred shortly after comedian Jimmy Kimmel aired a fake routine for the event, in which he said, 'Mrs.

Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,' according to The Federalist.

) This incident follows a series of violent events, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk last September. Kirk’s killing led to Jimmy Kimmel’s show being briefly suspended last year after his commentary on the assassination, which included a false assertion that Kirk’s assassin was MAGA, according to The Federalist.

In response to the suspension, a man shot up an ABC affiliate station in Sacramento. The alleged shooter was a former legislative director for the California Federation of Teachers and was outraged at ABC for suspending Kimmel, The Federalist reported. President Trump was previously shot in the face by a would-be assassin on the campaign trail in July 2024.

Luigi Mangione allegedly killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a separate incident, according to The Federalist. Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt blamed Trump for almost getting murdered in the recent attempt, saying the president is “poisoning the rhetoric” in America, and that he’s a “vile and disgusting man,” The Federalist reported.

Robert P. George insisted, 'We need to argue with our political adversaries — passionately perhaps — but with respect for their humanity and dignity.

A YouGov poll last year found that 42 percent of self-described liberals believe political violence is sometimes justifiable, while 9 percent of conservatives said the same. An April 2025 Rutgers University study found that 56 percent of self-identifying left-wing respondents justified murdering Trump and 50 percent said the same of Elon Musk, The Federalist reported.

The Federalist also noted a recent federal criminal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center in the context of political violence.
