Suspended prison terms and fines for three defendants convicted of bribing former first lady Kim Keon Hee were finalized July 3 after both the defendants and special counsel Min Joong-ki's team waived appeals, Yonhap reported. The Seoul Central District Court had handed down the penalties June 26.
A construction company chairman received a suspended one-year prison term for providing over 100 million won worth of jewelry to Kim in exchange for a government job for his son-in-law.
A businessperson received a suspended 10-month prison term for gifting a Vacheron Constantin watch to Kim in exchange for business favors. A pastor was fined 8 million won for handing over a Dior bag worth 5.4 million won. Kim was sentenced by the same court to a seven-year prison term for accepting approximately 300 million won in gifts and bribes.
She has appealed the ruling and is undergoing an appellate trial. Lee Bong-kwan, chairman of a construction company, appeared at special counsel Min Joong-ki's office in central Seoul on September 2, 2025, for questioning on the bribery charges.
