Swedish Teen Denies 70 Charges in 764 Network Trial as Court Orders Psychiatric Exam

A Swedish teenager identified as Chai went on trial in 2025 on more than 70 charges that include encouraging self-harm and suicide as well as creating child sexual abuse material, The Guardian reported. Most of the alleged offenses involved an Australian girl, and one count accuses Chai of inducing a young man in Germany to harm himself so severely that he nearly died.

The charges follow a late 2024 stabbing in the Stockholm suburb of Hässelby in which a 14-year-old boy approached an 80-year-old man using a walker and stabbed him three times in the back.

The video of the attack spread online. A Swedish court ruled in April 2025 that the boy carried out the stabbing but was too young to face criminal responsibility. The Guardian reported that the boy had links to the 764 network.

Chai's lawyer, Emily Töyrä, stated that her client denies all allegations. The trial paused in late June 2025 after the court ordered a forensic psychiatric examination, citing compelling evidence that Chai committed several of the charged acts. Proceedings are scheduled to resume in August.

The 764 network was founded by Bradley Cadenhead, a Texas teenager now serving an 80-year sentence in the United States for possessing child sexual abuse material. Investigative reporter Linus Svensson of Swedish broadcaster SVT identified at least nine Swedish court cases and dozens of Swedish members connected to the broader Com network that includes 764. Department of Justice indicted two American men in their early 20s, Leonidas Varagiannis and Prasan Nepal, for conspiring in the 764 Inferno chatroom to create and distribute child exploitation images. Researchers have documented at least 295 arrests linked to the Com network across 33 countries.
