A 35-year-old Syrian national has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and assault by penetration following an alleged attack on a 21-year-old woman on Brighton Beach. m. on May 3. Sussex Police received a report of the alleged attack the following morning.
Police arrested a man on suspicion of rape on May 14. He was remanded into custody and later identified as Bilal Alkadour of Cromwell Road in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Alkadour appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on May 16 and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Lewes Crown Court on June 15.
Hays said detectives worked to identify a suspect and gather evidence after the report was received. Hays confirmed that officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation. He thanked the victim for reporting the incident and assisting with inquiries.
Hays added that the force will continue round-the-clock patrols on the seafront while working with partners to protect the public.
