Taco Bell removes lettuce at many locations after cyclosporiasis outbreak

Taco Bell is removing lettuce from its menu at many locations after reports linked the ingredient to a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis. France 24 reported the move follows the largest U.S. outbreak of the parasitic infection, which spreads through contaminated food or water.

The chain's decision affects numerous sites as health officials track cases. France 24 stated that no deaths have occurred, though 94 people have been hospitalized. Cyclosporiasis produces symptoms including explosive diarrhoea in those infected.

France 24 noted the outbreak marks the largest such event recorded in the United States to date.
