Taiwan Coast Guard Says It Drove Chinese Vessels From Waters Near Taiping Island
Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration reported two mainland Chinese vessels entering restricted zones around Taiping Island on 11 June 2026 before being driven away. The incident marks the first reported entry of Chinese government ships into Taipei-defined waters near the island.

M. Taiwan stated this was the first time mainland Chinese government vessels had entered the Taipei-defined restricted waters near Taiping Island, also known as Itu Aba. The same statement noted that a mainland Chinese coast-guard ship had entered the prohibited waters of the Pratas Islands, also known as the Dongsha Islands, on 5 June 2026.
The vessels Sansha Zhifa 301 and Sansha No 2 are managed by the city of Sansha in Hainan province, South China Morning Post reported. Taiwan has for the first time reported mainland Chinese law enforcement vessels near an island it controls in the South China Sea, South China Morning Post reported. m.
