Taiwanese Firm Expands Production of One-Way Attack Drones
A Taichung-based manufacturer is scaling output of domestically produced one-way attack drones modeled on Iran's Shahed design. The Central News Agency reported rising orders from Japan, India, and Southeast Asian countries.
soranews24.comA Taichung-based Taiwanese manufacturer is increasing production of a domestically made variant of Iran's Shahed one-way attack drone. Taiwan's Central News Agency reported that Carbon-Based Technology is the company involved. The firm produces triangular-wing drones with a control range of over 90 km and catapult-launched small attack drones.
The company plans to expand its factory three to five times to meet surging demand. Production capacity constraints have emerged because of the increase in orders. The payload on these drones can be adjusted according to mission requirements, the agency stated.
The Russia-Ukraine war has driven global demand for non-Chinese drones. Taiwan government support has also contributed to overseas interest and orders from Japan, India, and Southeast Asia. Four years of war in Ukraine have accelerated the need for low-cost aerial unmanned systems.
Taiwan views drone manufacturing as both a national security capability and an industrial policy to supply Western militaries.
