Tall Ships from 20 Countries Dock in New York for Sail4th 250 Event

The Sail4th 250 event took place in New York City from July 3 through July 8, 2026, to mark America's 250th anniversary. Tall ships from 20 countries participated along with vessels, aircraft, and personnel from more than 130 navies and coast guards. On July 4, a fleet of tall ships sailed on the Hudson River as part of the International Naval Review and Parade of Sail.

Many ships later opened for free public tours over the holiday weekend. The USS Arlington, a 684-foot San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock commissioned in 2013, docked at Pier 88 on July 6. The ship, which has a crew of 360 sailors and can carry more than 700 Marines plus helicopters and LCACs, allowed visitors to see its well deck, flight deck, crew berthing, and medical bays.

The USS Farragut, a 509-foot-6-inch Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer with a crew of about 350 sailors, also docked at Pier 88 on July 6. It served as the official reviewing warship for the July 4 International Naval Review with Vice President JD Vance aboard. Visitors viewed its 5-inch Mark 45 gun and Mark 41 vertical launching system.

Foreign training ships included the 340-foot ARA Libertad from Argentina, the 354-foot Dar Mlodziezy from Poland, the 257-foot BAE Guayas from Ecuador, and the 329-foot Amerigo Vespucci from Italy. Additional vessels came from the Dominican Republic, Sweden, and Uruguay. MARSEC Level 1 security measures applied at Pier 88, with screenings and crew chaperones required for U.S.

Navy ships. Free pier-only tickets at the Intrepid Museum provided access to the tall-ship tours without museum admission, which normally costs $38 per adult. Insider reported that tours of the foreign tall ships allowed visitors to board and disembark without chaperones.
