AllAfrica reported that Ndejembi said national electricity access has reached 85.5 percent while rural access stands at 78.1 percent. When the agency was established in 2007, national access was 2 percent. Electricity now reaches all 12,318 villages in mainland Tanzania.
Connections cover 40,182 of 64,359 hamlets, or 62.4 percent of those settlements. Ndejembi stated that electricity is no longer a luxury but a basic necessity and a key driver for the Vision 2050 development agenda.
