FortuneTarget announced Monday that it has named designer Isaac Mizrahi to the newly created position of creative director at large. In the role, Mizrahi will mentor Target designers, advise on product design and innovation, and help develop new partnerships, the company said. He will work alongside the retailer’s senior vice president of design.
Background on prior collaboration Mizrahi previously partnered with Target in 2002 on an exclusive clothing and accessories line. That collection was the retailer’s first collaboration with a major fashion designer and led to later partnerships with other designers. The earlier arrangement ended in 2009.
Current turnaround efforts Mizrahi said in a statement that the new position will focus on “bringing more joy, style and sophistication to design through storytelling, creativity and a shopping experience that feels even more fun.” The appointment is part of Target’s broader efforts to improve sales and refresh its product offerings.
