vanguardngr.comABUJA, Nigeria (Substrate) -- The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) held a Town Hall Meeting with staff in Abuja on April 26, 2026, where its managing director and CEO, Dr. Sule Abdulaziz, pledged a results-driven second term focused on bulk electricity delivery and grid strengthening. Dr.
Sule Abdulaziz was reappointed by President Bola Tinubu, an action he described as aligning with the federal government's mandate to prioritize reliable and efficient electricity supply for Nigerians. He noted that Nigeria's grid wheeling capacity has increased from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts, attributing the growth to sustained investments in infrastructure.
TCN completed several 330kV and 132kV transmission projects nationwide, further bolstering the network.
The company has forged partnerships with the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement, which Abdulaziz said have boosted grid capacity and modernization efforts. In a push for expansion, TCN installed over 82 transformers within 23 months, including 15 high-capacity 300MVA units deployed across key transmission stations in the second half of 2025.
Substations in Abuja, Kano, Enugu, and Benin have been upgraded to improve grid stability and operational efficiency.
Abdulaziz maintained that TCN has one of the most technically skilled workforces in Nigeria's power industry, crediting staff dedication for the company's achievements despite public criticism of the sector. He emphasized that infrastructure expansion must translate into tangible improvements in electricity supply to distribution companies and to consumers.
The managing director also called for stronger cooperation between management, staff, and labor unions to achieve the company's objectives in the new term.
Earlier at the meeting, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, the executive director of Human Resources and Corporate Services at TCN, said the Town Hall Meeting was designed to promote transparency and inclusiveness within the organization. Other executives, including Engr.
Olugbenga Ajiboye, head of Transmission Service Provider at TCN, and Chuks Ochije, the Finance Director at TCN, reiterated management's commitment to staff welfare and organizational success.
AllAfrica reported these details from the event, underscoring TCN's recommitment to sustainable transmission upgrades for reliable power supply across the country.
