Team of 80 Scientists to Sail to Greenland on Research Ship

An international team of about 80 scientists and crew will sail to Greenland aboard the polar research ship RSS David Attenborough to study whether the island's melting glaciers could disrupt a major Atlantic current system and alter Europe's climate.

The expedition will focus on data collection around glacier melt rates and ocean circulation patterns. Researchers plan to measure temperature, salinity, and current velocity at multiple sites along the Greenland coast.

Scientists will examine whether increased freshwater from melting ice could slow or alter this circulation. Data gathered during the voyage will be compared with earlier measurements to track changes over time. The ship is scheduled to depart from a European port and operate in Greenland waters for several weeks.

The RSS David Attenborough carries instruments for continuous ocean monitoring and equipment for deploying sensors at depth. Crew members will conduct water sampling and deploy autonomous floats that transmit readings in real time. Results from the expedition are expected to contribute to models used by climate research centers in multiple countries.
