Team Mirai Holds First Convention, Reaffirms Case-by-Case Cooperation With Both Ruling and Opposition Parties

Leader Takahiro Anno answered reporters' questions after Team Mirai's first convention since its establishment on Saturday in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, where the party reaffirmed its stance of cooperating with both the ruling side and other opposition parties on a case-by-case basis to realize its policy pledges. The group aims to update the country’s democracy using digital technology.

A challenge for Team Mirai is how the opposition party should confront the administration of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who also heads the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The LDP and its coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party, lack a majority in the House of Councillors, the upper chamber of the Diet, The Japan Times reported.

Political watchers have noted a view that the ruling bloc may seek to use Team Mirai to secure majority votes in the upper house.
