Tech Companies Cut Over 50,000 Jobs in Early 2026 While Boosting AI Investments
Major technology companies including Meta, Microsoft, Oracle and Block have announced tens of thousands of job cuts in recent months, with many attributed to artificial intelligence. Investments in AI infrastructure continue to rise, with firms like Meta projecting $145 billion in capital expenditures for 2026.

These moves follow Oracle's elimination of 30,000 positions in March 2026 and Block's reduction of 4,000 jobs, representing nearly 40 percent of its workforce.

Layoffs extended beyond tech giants. General Motors reduced its flagship Factory Zero plant to one shift in Detroit. UPS announced plans to close 27 additional parcel centers in 2026 and will have eliminated at least 68,000 jobs through early 2026.
