forbes.comSilicon Valley executives, including those at Apple, expect AI agents and next-generation 6G wireless networks to replace smartphones as the main personal computing device within the next 10 years. Current phones and computers respond to user prompts. New devices will instead sense surroundings, learn from real-time data, and act proactively.
And 6G Networks AI agents will process continuous streams of visual, audio, and environmental data. 6G networks will support the high-speed, low-latency connections required for these functions. Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, said every even-numbered wireless generation has produced major shifts. He added that 6G will integrate AI directly into network operations.
Amon stated that smart glasses are the most natural form factor because they sit near the eyes, ears, and mouth. He noted that other wearable options, including jewelry and pins, are also under development. Google and Meta are working on smart glasses with cameras and microphones.
5 billion to build AI-powered consumer devices. Amon said workload migration from phones to agent devices could begin between 2027 and 2028. He projected hundreds of millions of such devices within five years.
Amon said the control point will move from operating systems and app stores to AI agents. He noted that consumer trust in data handling will determine which companies succeed. Qualcomm supplies chips for roughly 5 billion devices worldwide and partners with most major technology firms except Apple.
