Tech Firms Pledge to Fund AI Power Needs After White House Meeting, With New Plants Years Away
Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, OpenAI, Oracle and xAI signed commitments in March 2026 to cover electricity and grid costs for their AI operations. Bitzero already controls more than one gigawatt of low-cost power secured years earlier.
Seven major technology companies signed a document in March 2026 committing to pay for every megawatt of new electricity their AI projects require and to cover all associated grid infrastructure costs. Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI met with President Trump at the White House and put the pledge in writing.
Bitzero, listed on NASDAQ as AIBZ, controls more than one gigawatt of low-cost power across Norway, Finland, and North Dakota.
The company secured that capacity years before the March 2026 White House announcement. Bitzero also announced a major deal with a long-term tenant at its flagship site under which the tenant agreed to cover electricity costs. com.
A new utility-scale power plant takes five to ten years from approval to operation. Microsoft’s deal to restart the Three Mile Island reactor is not expected to deliver electricity until 2027 at the earliest. Google’s first Kairos Power reactor is not expected online until 2030.
