bbc.co.ukTeignmouth Lido in Devon reopened today after residents opposed plans to close the facility earlier this year. The 25-metre outdoor pool sits next to the seafront and offers general swimming, lane swimming, and family sessions. Britain is forecast to reach 30C over the bank holiday weekend under a high-pressure system bringing warm air from Iberia.
London recorded temperatures above 28C on Friday, the warmest day of the year so far. The UK Health Security Agency issued amber heat-health alerts for the Midlands, east, and southeast England.
Council will run the lido for the summer season, with longer-term plans to transfer ownership to the community. The pool has operated for generations and holds local significance for families in the area.
Essex also reopened this weekend.
The pool opened in 1932 as a tidal saltwater facility, was converted to freshwater, faced closure in 2017, and was restored by volunteers before reopening in 2018.
