Ten Early David Bowie Tracks Recorded with Shel Talmy Scheduled for September Release

Ten unreleased tracks recorded by David Bowie in the early part of his career are set to be shared with the public. The collection, titled David Bowie: The Shel Talmy Recordings, is billed by the singer's label as the most complete set of tracks made with producer Shel Talmy. The album features contributions from guitarist Jimmy Page and pianist Nicky Hopkins.

One single from the sessions, I Want Your Love, was uploaded to streaming services on Wednesday. The full collection is scheduled for release on 18 September. Previously unheard songs include Cupid, Leave Her to Me, You Gotta Tell Her, Certain Woman, Today, I Live in Dreams and I Do Believe I Love You.

Other tracks set for inclusion are You've Got A Habit Of Leaving and Baby Loves That Way. Singles from the same period that have already been released include Can't Help Thinking About Me and Do Anything You Say. Music historian Alec Palao wrote in the sleeve notes that each phase of Bowie's career should be considered complementary and that this collection deserves legitimate consideration.

Producer Sheldon Talmy, who died in 2024, is best known for hits including You Really Got Me with the Kinks and My Generation by The Who. Talmy and Bowie first met while frequenting London's Denmark Street. The US ex-pat signed Bowie and the Manish Boys in December 1964.

The singer changed his name to David Bowie the following year to avoid confusion with Davy Jones of the Monkees. He achieved his breakthrough in 1969 with Space Oddity and developed his Ziggy Stardust alter-ego in 1972.
