Tennessee Pharmacies Sell High-Dose Ivermectin Without Prescriptions Under 2022 Law
Dozens of Tennessee pharmacies dispense concentrated ivermectin tablets under collaborative agreements that bypass individual prescriptions. State tracking of sales remains limited three years after the law took effect.

Dozens of Tennessee pharmacies sell ivermectin tablets at 10 to 21 times standard strength without requiring a patient-specific prescription. The sales occur under collaborative pharmacy practice agreements authorized by a 2022 state law that took effect immediately upon signature by Gov. Bill Lee.
Pharmacies in Mt. Juliet, Johnson City, Nashville suburbs, Knoxville, and Chattanooga market the drug for conditions including Covid, cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. , Steve Bannon, Laura Ingraham, and Kevin Sorbo.
The Tennessee Poison Center received more than 60 calls for possible ivermectin poisoning in 2025, the highest annual total since 2021. Reported symptoms included vomiting, blurred vision, neurological problems, and difficulty walking. Pharmacist Paul Hughey estimated up to 20 customers per week purchase ivermectin at Mt.
Juliet Pharmacy and Compound Rx, with peak demand reaching 40 to 60 people weekly. Denise Sibley, a Tennessee physician, has signed collaborative agreements with at least 10 pharmacies and stated she has made as many as 40 such agreements. In a February 2025 podcast interview she said customers come from every state, Canada, and Europe.
KFF Health News confirmed Sibley’s agreements with 10 pharmacies; the Tennessee Department of Health produced records for only 12 pharmacies over three months in response to a public-records request, half involving Sibley. The department did not locate records for at least 13 additional pharmacies identified by KFF Health News as selling ivermectin without individual prescriptions.
Tennessee does not track the volume of ivermectin sold in the state.
