Tennessee Titans to Induct Chris Johnson into Ring of Honor

The Tennessee Titans announced they will induct former running back Chris Johnson into their Ring of Honor. The ceremony will occur at halftime of the team's 2026 season opener against the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Johnson, 40, was selected by the Titans with the 24th pick of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played six seasons with the team from 2008 to 2013 and rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of those years. His 7,965 rushing yards rank fourth in franchise history, and his 58 total touchdowns also rank fourth.

In the 2009 season Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards and added 503 receiving yards for a single-season NFL record of 2,509 yards from scrimmage. He played 95 games with the Titans.

Controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said Johnson holds a special place in the hearts of the organization and fans. She added that his statistics speak for themselves and that the man behind the yardage deserves celebration. Johnson announced in June 2026 that he had been diagnosed with ALS in 2025.

He uses a speech-generating device that employs his own recorded voice. Johnson said he chose to fight the disease rather than give up. He stated that ALS has changed what his body can do but has not changed who he is.
