Tesla European Sales Rose 77 Percent Through May 2026 After Sharp 2025 Declines

Tesla vehicle sales in Europe rose 77 percent from January through May 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association reported. In May alone the company sold 22,000 cars, a total that surpassed the combined European sales of Ford, Nissan, and Honda when gasoline and diesel models are included.

Hot Air reported that Tesla reduced prices on entry-level models to levels competitive with comparable gasoline or diesel vehicles and inexpensive Chinese cars.

Delivery wait times for new vehicles have lengthened to three months. Sales for the first five months of 2026 have nearly matched Tesla’s full-year total for 2024. The company recorded major sales declines in both Europe and the United States throughout 2025.

Geraldine Heaton, a retired pharmacist in a Dublin suburb, said she felt “a certain shame in driving a Tesla because of his DOGE involvement and his general view of the world,” yet purchased a Model 3. ” In the United States, EV sales rose above 10 percent market share in the third quarter of 2025 as buyers rushed to claim the expiring federal tax credit.

Sales then fell 46 percent in the fourth quarter after the credit was eliminated.

Market share has remained near 6 percent over the two most recent quarters through the first quarter of 2026, when sales declined 7.8 percent from the prior quarter, according to Cox analysts.
