Texans Quarterback Says He Has Met Terms for Contract Extension
The Houston Texans quarterback stated he has fulfilled his side of any potential new deal. He said contract talks will not affect his preparation for the upcoming season.
foxnews.comThe Houston Texans quarterback said he has done what is required to earn a contract extension but will not let negotiations affect his preparation. The player, whose fifth-year option for 2027 was exercised in April, is eligible for an extension for the first time since being selected second overall in the 2023 draft.
He told reporters at organized team activities on Thursday that discussions have occurred within his camp but will not change his daily focus. "If it's time to do it, then it is," the quarterback said. "That's what I'm focused on, just getting better.
I think I've held my bargain up. The team captured two division titles and advanced to the playoffs each year, winning its opening postseason game in each appearance. His statistics have declined each season, and he missed three games last year after sustaining a concussion.
He also recorded seven turnovers during the team's January playoff games.
The head coach said he has been satisfied with the quarterback's work during the current offseason, noting it is the first time the player has had a full offseason program available.
