Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office filed a lawsuit against chat platform Discord on May 22, 2026, alleging the company failed to safeguard minors from sexual abuse. The complaint claims Discord allows strangers to contact minors, relies on unpaid volunteers for moderation, and does not enforce its rules rigorously.

A Discord spokesperson told the DCNF that the lawsuit’s characterization does not reflect the platform’s safety investments. The spokesperson said Discord combines advanced technology and human-led investigations with user reports to identify harmful activity.
The company noted it provides teen users and parents with privacy and safety tools, including Teen Safety Assist and Family Center, and said it looks forward to working with policymakers on online safety.
