Texas County Approves One-Year Moratorium on Data Center Construction

Hill County commissioners approved a one-year moratorium on data center construction in unincorporated parts of the county. The ban covers eight proposed data center projects currently under consideration in the rural area.

County is located in central Texas and has seen growing interest from technology companies seeking sites for large-scale computing facilities. The moratorium applies only to areas outside city limits where county officials have direct zoning authority.

County officials will review the proposals during the one-year period before deciding whether to extend or lift the restrictions. The measure takes effect immediately and applies to any new applications submitted after the vote.
