A state district judge canceled the public divorce trial between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Sen. Angela Paxton on Tuesday. The proceedings had been set after Angela Paxton filed for divorce last July. She cited recent discoveries and stated in a social media post that remaining in the marriage would not honor God or be loving to herself, her children, or Ken Paxton.

Ken Paxton responded last summer that the couple had decided to start a new chapter following political attacks and public scrutiny.

Background of the proceedings The divorce case overlapped with Ken Paxton's campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. John Cornyn. He defeated Cornyn in a Republican primary runoff on May 26 and will face state Rep. James Talarico in the November general election. Angela Paxton posted on social media urging turnout for primary voting but did not reference her husband's race.

Paxton stated Tuesday that both sides jointly agreed a trial was no longer necessary. The statement said the parties have made substantial progress toward an amicable resolution and remain engaged in productive discussions. The attorneys added they are optimistic a final agreement will be reached soon and declined further comment out of respect for the family.
