Texas Parole Supervisor Fired After Facebook Post Supporting Karmelo Anthony in Metcalf Murder Case
Donna Robinson lost her job at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after posting comments about the sentencing of Karmelo Anthony for the 2025 stabbing death of Austin Metcalf.
ForbesDonna Robinson was fired Friday from her position at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after more than 10 years of employment, the Dallas Morning News reported. Robinson posted on Facebook that she was "just glad we didn't have to bury another black child" and that Karmelo Anthony would be "protected" in prison.
Karmelo Anthony, 19 and Black, was convicted of murder last week and sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf, a white teenager, at a Frisco school district track meet in April 2025.
Both teenagers were 17 at the time of the incident. Anthony was tried as an adult under Texas law. " Austin Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, disavowed individuals who focused on race as a contributing factor.
Anthony's legal team argued he acted in self-defense after being physically confronted by a larger opposing track-team member. Prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally escalated the situation by stabbing Metcalf in the chest with a folding knife. The jury that convicted Anthony included no Black members.
Supporters of Austin Metcalf and Karmelo Anthony clashed outside the Collin County Courthouse on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and two people were arrested. " Judge John Roach Jr. stated that Karmelo Anthony "seems like a nice young man who committed a crime" and understands the consequences.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett stated she thinks the outcome would have been different if the races were reversed and that the jury would have believed a white defendant's fear of a Black person. " The Collin County NAACP posted questioning "fairness, representation, and confidence in our justice system" and why there were no Black people on the jury.
