Texas Republican Introduces Bill to Ban Foreign Adversaries From Buying U.S. Homes

Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy introduced legislation Tuesday that would prohibit foreign adversaries, nationals from countries of concern, and designated state sponsors of terrorism from purchasing American homes. U.S. citizens within two years of enactment. Roy stated that the measure is intended to keep American homes under domestic ownership.

Roy and other congressional Republicans have pointed to properties in Texas linked to Chinese ownership. One 342-acre development zoned for residential and commercial use is reported to be 70 percent owned by Chinese Communist Party investors. Another holding spans more than 123,000 acres across 15 counties and is valued at approximately $900 million.
