Texas Senate Candidate James Talarico Held Fundraiser With Surgeon Who Performed Top Surgeries on Minors

Reid told Fox News Digital he no longer performs the procedures on patients under 18 and follows Texas law.

Talarico's positions Talarico voted against the 2023 Texas bill that banned the surgeries for minors. In speeches and interviews that year he described the ban as one of the "most dangerous" measures passed by the legislature and linked it to what he called the "Christofascism" movement.

Surgeon's statements and prior practice Reid said he performed the operations on a case-by-case basis when patients, families, and clinicians agreed it was appropriate. His practice website states that it follows World Professional Association for Transgender Health standards for patients under 18.

Reid added that a total ban on any medical procedure can be problematic and that the bar for such care should be higher for minority patients, though he said he accepts the current Texas restrictions.

Reactions from opponents Gregg Keller, spokesman for Lone Star Liberty PAC, said Talarico "is lying to Texans" by claiming he does not support the surgeries after previously opposing the ban. The Human Rights Campaign political action committee also participated in the fundraiser and has endorsed Talarico's Senate campaign.
