The Republican senator from Texas said Tuesday he will not campaign for the party's Senate nominee after losing the primary. He told the Washington Examiner he answered "No" when asked if he would actively support the nominee on the trail. The senator confirmed he will still vote for the nominee and said he supports the party's ticket.

He added that statements he made during the primary remain accurate.

" The nominee's campaign did not respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner. The senator has said he will evaluate administration proposals individually and may oppose some measures. He stated he wants the president and the Republican Party to succeed but will speak out against what he views as overreach.

The general election race is rated lean Republican by political analysts. Democrats have indicated they will spend heavily to support their candidate in the contest.
