Thailand Prime Minister Performs Teresa Teng Song During Beijing Lunch with Chinese Premier

Thailand’s prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul sang the Teresa Teng song “Tian Mi Mi” during a lunch hosted by Chinese premier Li Qiang in Beijing, The Independent reported. The performance occurred at the end of his first official visit to China. He also visited Shanghai and met Chinese president Xi Jinping.
Images from Thai media showed Anutin Charnvirakul holding a microphone at a long table while Li Qiang and other officials watched and applauded, with Thai and Chinese flags in the background. ” During a June visit to Hanoi he played a traditional Vietnamese instrument before Vietnamese prime minister Le Minh Hung.
Musicians at that dinner performed Thai songs including “Sabai Sabai” by Bird Thongchai on Vietnamese instruments, and Anutin Charnvirakul joined for at least two songs.
On 14 July Anutin Charnvirakul performed a duet of the Thai rock song “Som San” with Nene Royal, whose original name is Rattikarn “Praew” Amloy. Nene Royal gained attention after performing The Cranberries’ “Zombie” on electric guitar during her audition on Season 21 of America’s Got Talent.
The Thai government later announced financial support for her continued participation, Nation Thailand reported.
Anutin Charnvirakul and Nene Royal discussed plans to involve her as a tourism ambassador to promote Thailand’s image and soft power. The Independent noted that Anutin Charnvirakul is proficient with the piano and Thai flute and comes from a wealthy construction family.
