The Thread Group launched Thread Tools, a beta app for iOS and Android that shows real-time data from Thread networks. The tool aims to help users and installers identify connectivity problems that laboratory tests may miss. It arrives as more than 1,100 Thread-certified products reach the market.
ForbesThe Thread Group released Thread Tools, a diagnostic application available now in beta for iOS and Android devices. The app captures and displays performance data from Thread networks used in smart homes.
Thread is a wireless technology underlying the Matter smart home standard. It remained largely invisible to users until connectivity issues arose. Thread Tools lets users view network activity in real time and share diagnostic logs with support teams.
The Thread Group stated that the app addresses problems not always detected in lab conditions. Users, installers, and manufacturers can use the data to locate faults in actual home environments.
More than 1,100 certified Thread products are now on the market, including lights, sensors, locks, and thermostats. Larger and more complex networks increase the need for diagnostic tools. The Thread Group also announced a partnership with the Broadband Forum.
The collaboration seeks to improve coordination between Thread mesh networks and broadband infrastructure. Thread Tools will move from beta status to open-source availability, allowing device makers to integrate similar functions into their own applications.
