Nankai University in Tianjin removed Chen Quan as dean of its College of Life Sciences on Saturday. The university said Chen, who served as corresponding author, failed to properly oversee the quality and authenticity of experimental data in a paper published in Nature Cancer in 2024.

Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou removed Kang Tiebang as deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China.

The university also removed Kuang Dongming as associate dean of its School of Life Sciences. Sun Yat-sen University stated that Kang was the corresponding author for a paper published in Nature Cell Biology in 2020 that contained various data and image errors.

The same university said Kuang faced accusations of misconduct linked to three papers published in Nature Cell Biology, Science Advances and Cell.

A former doctoral student and blogger known as Student Geng raised questions about the scientists' work. The three researchers faced heightened scrutiny after the blogger raised red flags about their research. Shi Huang published an article on the disciplinary actions at 7:28pm on 31 May 2026.
