Nieto said the first responders had direct contact with the individual who died and reported symptoms including lightheadedness, headaches, and nausea. Nieto said he observed narcotics at the home. Albuquerque Fire Rescue Hazmat teams are working to identify the substance.

Investigators believe it may be spread through contact rather than being airborne. New Mexico State Police and the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office secured a perimeter around the home. Authorities stated there is no threat to the public and asked residents to avoid the area.
