The devices were crude explosives built with camping gas canisters, according to AP News. All five injuries occurred in the third attack, when vehicles were set on fire. One burned car belonged to parliamentary candidate Afroditi Nestora.
Nestora, her mother and her father were among those hospitalized. Her mother was placed in intensive care and intubated. Two other residents of the same building were also hospitalized. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who leads New Democracy, traveled to Thessaloniki on July 1 to visit the injured.
He described the incident as a “cowardly, murderous attack” and said Nestora’s mother was intubated. “I would like once again to repeat that violence has no place in an organized society, and those who would wear the cloak of social struggle to carry out such acts are nothing but mere criminals,” Mitsotakis said.
