Three Sisters Named After Drowning Deaths Off Brighton Beach

The BbcSussex Police have named the three women who died in the sea off Brighton beach on 13 May as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walter, 32, and Rebecca Walter, 31, all from the Uxbridge area of London. Emergency services responded at about 05:45 BST after a report of a person in the water near Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive. Two additional bodies were recovered nearby.
The women's father, Joseph, released a statement describing the loss of his three daughters. He said the deaths left an emptiness that words cannot heal. " — Joseph, father, May 2026 (BBC) Joseph added that Jane, Christina, and Becky were his joy and strength. He said their smiles brightened dark days and their presence made life more meaningful.
Police said there is no evidence of third-party involvement or criminality. Specialist detectives are reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV and making enquiries around the beach area. One line of inquiry is that the women may have entered the sea from the beach and then got into difficulty.
They were first spotted at Brighton Palace Pier before drifting toward Brighton Marina. The force said it is working to gather the full facts and circumstances of the deaths. Next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. Brighton & Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey described the news as the most devastating the city had received for a very long time.
