Tina Daheley to Step Down as Radio 2 Breakfast Newsreader After Seven Years
Daheley announced her departure live on air Tuesday and said she will continue standing in for Jeremy Vine. Sara Cox begins hosting the show on 6 July.
BBC NewsTina Daheley announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down as newsreader on BBC Radio 2's breakfast show after seven years. She made the announcement live on air and later posted a statement on Instagram. Daheley wrote that the role had been one of the "greatest privileges" of her life.
Daheley said her breakfast run ends at Radio 2 but began on 1Xtra when she read the news on Trevor Nelson's show. She noted that after 18 years and six back-to-back breakfast shows she is looking forward to a lie-in. She will continue standing in for Jeremy Vine's lunchtime show when he is away.
No replacement newsreader has been announced for the breakfast programme. Daheley began her BBC career in 2007, reading news on 1Xtra and Radio 1 before moving to Radio 2, where she read the news for six years on Zoe Ball's breakfast show. She has also read the news for shows hosted by Chris Moyles and Nick Grimshaw.
Sara Cox will take over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show on 6 July, with Tom Hanks announced as her first guest. Gary Davies has covered the programme since Scott Mills was sacked by the BBC in March. Zoe Ball commented on Daheley's Instagram post, writing: "Love you Tina.
Class act darling girl.
