Todd Boehly Exploring Bid for Seahawks as Paul Allen Estate Prepares to Sell Team
Billionaire financier Todd Boehly is exploring a purchase of the NFL team owned by Paul Allen’s estate, with formal bids expected in coming weeks.
SemaforBillionaire financier Todd Boehly is weighing a bid for the Seattle Seahawks that could reach $9 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. Boehly has approached Guggenheim Partners CEO Mark Walter and Middle East investors about forming a group to pursue the team, the same people said. Boehly and Walter jointly own the Los Angeles Lakers and Chelsea soccer club.
The Seahawks are owned by the estate of the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The estate is selling assets to fund Allen’s philanthropic directives. Negotiations remain ongoing and the final price could change, Semafor reported. ESPN reported last month that bidder interest had shifted.
Formal bids are expected in the next few weeks, the people familiar with the matter said. Indian steel executive Aditya Mittal and former Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck are preparing bids, and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has expressed interest, according to Sportico and Semafor. A spokesman for Boehly declined to comment.
A representative for Mark Walter also declined to comment. 5 billion.
