Toddler Audrey Scott Diagnosed With High-Risk Infant Metastatic Medulloblastoma After Routine Checkup

Audrey Scott, the 2-year-old daughter of Madeline and Sammy Scott, was diagnosed with high-risk infant metastatic medulloblastoma after her 12-month checkup revealed an abnormal increase in head circumference. 5-centimeter brain tumor. One week earlier, Audrey had celebrated her first birthday with family and friends and showed no signs of illness.

Within the first six weeks of treatment, Audrey underwent six surgeries, including a 12-hour brain operation during which her entire blood volume was replaced twice. Over the following 10 months she had 15 additional surgeries and completed 10 rounds of chemotherapy, three of them supported by stem cell transplants. The initial treatment protocol has not been successful.

Madeline Scott said treatment has taken substantial abilities from her daughter. “We watched our daughter lose her ability to blink, swallow, move, crawl, sit independently, and talk,” she said. Audrey has since begun relearning some of those skills.

The family discovered hidden mold in their home and had to seek alternative accommodations. Before the diagnosis, Madeline Scott said the family spent their first year as parents of two children outdoors, exploring, attending farm school with Audrey’s 3-year-old brother Elliott, and visiting parks.

” She said the family hopes sharing the story will encourage greater focus on treatments for childhood brain cancer and remind parents of the value of regular checkups.
